Symbolic Journey
This project is about personal identity and how symbols and objects are a
part of our communal inner language. I have been intrigued with the use of
symbolism throughout the history of humanity; we are still unlocking the
code of ancient languages and within these languages are found the
fundamental structures of symbolism.
I sent ten dolls to ten people, two in Minnesota, four in Oregon, two in Washington, one in England and one in Japan and asked the participants to attach an object that would symbolize who they were to an unknown audience. Each participant was to pass the doll to five to ten other people, each participant was asked to attach an object to the doll and to write in the doll's notebook why they chose that object. Here are some of the dolls that were returned to me.
